I realized overnight that I was thinking wrong about how to assemble things... We need to put up the front wall first, then the back wall, then the side walls, so the goal is to get the front wall done today (we were working on the back wall yesterday.)

Front wall original plan

The front wall is taller than the others and I ordered exactly the right number of 2x4x10s... I started cutting them down to size then handed the job off to Hayden with the warning that there aren't extras if he goofs it up, so of course he goofed it up... he was supposed to set the speed square at 88 7/16", but set it at 87 7/16" (swapping that 7 was inevitable)... so I have a left-over 2x4x12 that we can use... then he makes the same mistake again, arg!!! So we headed over to the building supply and bought two replacement 2x4x10s.

Morning time-lapse #1 - 2m 10s (1h 5m real time)

  • D takes tarps off (there was a little drizzle this morning)
  • D starts cutting 2x4x10s for the front wall
  • D & H move back wall out of the way
  • H takes over cutting 2x4x10s for the front wall
  • D shows A how to lay out the top and bottom plates for the front wall
  • H goofs up 2x4x10s and gets upset with himself
  • D looks to see if he can use the left-over 2x4x12s and decides they're not in good enough shape

Morning time-lapse #2 - 3m 17s (1h 38m real time)

  • D finishing up the 2x4x10s
  • D show H how to make the corner studs (California corner studs)
  • A pre-drills holes for top and bottom plates
  • D starts work on door header and jack studs
  • A and H get all the full-length studs screwed in

Lunch!

Afternoon time-lapse #1 3m 39s (1h 50m real time)

  • Working on the door header
  • Off camera cutting 1/2" plywood to fill between 2x6 header boards
  • H glues up and screws header
  • We discuss the windows and the blocking and decide on a dynamic change to make the small windows larger and make the gaps above the door full windows
  • Work on cripple studs and blocking goes on and off-camera (the table saw is off camera - lots of trimming)

D finished up the blocking off camera

Evening time-lapse 1m 18s (39m real time)

  • D and H get the siding laid out and cut
